Background information

Anaesthesiology

Anaesthesiology at the Emma Klinik

The rapid advances made in medical science have also left their mark on anaesthesiology. Modern anaesthetic procedures make it possible for us to achieve a gentle and precise level of sedation for virtually every patient  without any damaging side effects.

The anaesthetists at the Emma Klinik aim to administer a precise level of anaesthetic that is appropriate for the operation to be performed. We use modern short-acting drugs in conjunction with state-of-the-art anaesthetic and monitoring equipment that enable us to control the depth and duration of the general anaesthetic. Furthermore our highly dedicated team has many years of experience, offering you the best possible prerequisites for a safe anaesthetic.

The combination of general with local or regional anaesthetics ensure that you remain comfortable and free of pain even during the wake-up phase. Nausea and sickness feared by many patients is now a rarity.

Apart from administering the right level of anaesthetics, we also see it as our task to accompany you through your surgery from admission through to discharge.

Before your operation we will talk to you and inform you in detail about the best anaesthesia for you. It goes without saying that we will take time to answer your questions and alleviate your fears so that you can approach the operation calmly and relaxed. After the operation we can also offer you a variety of treatment to help you to cope with the pain if necessary, adjusted to suit your personal needs.

In our Online Magazine you can find an interesting article on the subject "Anaesthetics – more than just going to sleep and waking up".

A quality report on anaesthesiology at the Emma Klinik.

A new quality report is now available

A quality report drawn up in compliance with § 137, section  1 sentence 3, No. 6 of Vol. 5 of the German Social Code for 2010, written by Dr. med. Thomas Wiederspahn-Wilz and colleagues from the Department of Anaesthesiology at the Emma Klinik .

Hospitals are now obliged by law to publish quality reports.  This obligation does not apply to day clinics. However, even though the Emma Klinik is not obliged by law to produce a quality report, our doctors see it as a matter of importance to publish their data in the legally required form so that patients may compare the performance of the Emma Klinik with other hospitals and day clinics.

You can download the latest quality report for 2010 and the reports for 2007 and 2008 from the Department of Anaesthesiology at the Emma Klinik as a PDF file here:
