Vascular Surgery

Vascular surgery involves the surgical treatment of blood vessels, frequently involving surgical bypass operations to treat peripheral arterial disease or inserting a prosthesis in the case of aneurysms.  Vascular surgery also includes surgical treatment of blood vessels to the brain in the event of arterioscleroseis in order to prevent strokes.

Visceral Surgery

Visceral surgery covers the surgical treatment of the abdominal organs, i.e. the entire digestive tract including the oesophagus, stomach, large and small intestine, rectum, liver and spleen. Surgical treatment of the thyroid and parathyroid glands as well as treatment of hernias are also part of visceral surgery.
